After launching a climate change commission, Essex County Council is paving the way as the greenest county in England, with £1m invested in carbon neutral schemes and hundreds of thousands of trees planted that will capture 60,000 tonnes of carbon. I want to take this further and set up a youth climate council which will ensure the next generation has a say in the future of our planet.
This past year has been unbelievably challenging for businesses in Essex and I am keen to support and celebrate the independent businesses of Chelmsford and show-off the unique characteristics of Chelmsford, whilst building a vibrant business community that brings jobs and opportunities for our young people.
Every child, no matter their background, should be given the best start in life with quality education. Investing in education, is an investment in our future generations.
Youth crime has increased making our streets less safe and our children at higher risk. We must increase visible policing and provide more youth services so that our children have somewhere safe to go. As gangs become ever-more insidious in how they groom our young people from all backgrounds, we must work harder to educate them of the dangers of gangs and provide the services and facilities to make sure they are safe.
The world around us is changing and so are our needs. It is important that our public services are able to adapt and meet tomorrow's needs. It is with a Conservative administration that you can rely on continued re-imagination and re-engineering that ensures services that are fit for tomorrow without endless increases in council tax. My professional career has been built with innovative tech companies and this is something I feel passionate about.
